Paperboard is a versatile carton material that demands a barrier treatment when used in aggressive environments. Corrugated boxes are a staple solution for the shipping and storage of fresh produce and other perishables as well as environmentally sensitive materials. For longstanding or emerging applications, Michelman has the trusted brands of barrier and functional coatings to cover the gamut of performance requirements for paperboard and corrugated.
Provides high levels of water resistance and good moisture resistance for kraft paper. It protects food products from excessive moisture, freezer burn, and sticking. When diluted for mill application, it is an economical sizing agent. Gluability with hot melt adhesives is excellent, but cold set gluing is not recommended.
An economical water based treatment for kraft paper that imparts a high degree of water repellency and is both printable and gluable.
Water based coating designed to provide good water resistance to corrugated board. It is cold set gluable with most adhesives.
A water based coating designed to provide good water beading and resistance to corrugated board while being cold set gluable with most adhesives.
A water based dilutable coating designed to provide good water beading and repellence to paper substrates while being cold set gluable with most adhesives.
An economical, water based treatment for kraft paper that imparts a high degree of water repellency, and is printable and gluable. It can be applied at the wet end or dry end of the corrugator, or with an off-line treating operation.
A white coating designed to offer excellent brightness before and after wax. This product is both hot melt and cold set gluable.
A machine ready coating which imparts good water, grease and oil resistance to the substrate. This product has been specially developed for good grease resistance in folded areas.
A water based coating designed to provide good water resistance to corrugated board. It is cold set gluable with most adhesives.
A versatile water resistant coating which is gluable with a wide range of water based and hot melt adhesives.
A repulpable, printable, and cold set gluable coating optimized for water resistance and intermediate MVTR protection. Common uses include packaging for produce and meats, or anywhere packaged goods require protection from water or moisture vapor. It can be used alone as a single bump, or can be an ideal base coat for other barrier-enhancing Michelman coatings.
Multipurpose barrier coating particularly suited for two-sided coating jobs due to its printable and cold set gluable qualities. The coating imparts excellent water resistance, very good MVTR protection, and good oil resistance. It resists blocking in hot, moist stacks of corrugated board, resulting in excellent dyne stability. Michem® Coat 90 may be used alone as a single bump, or as a basecoat for other barrier-enhancing Michelman coatings.
A water and grease resistant coating that can also function as a heat resistant gloss overprint. In such applications, it can be applied to paper (non-clay coated), film or foil, either over or under glycol or wax-free inks. This product is gluable with cold set and hot melt adhesives.
This heat resistant gloss overprint is also an excellent choice when a water and grease resistant coating is required and in-line coating is not possible. It imparts useful levels of gloss and ink protection. This product is gluable with both hot melt and cold set glues.
Provides very good abrasion protection for enamel coated metal surfaces, as well as many plastic surfaces. It is gluable with cold set and hot melt adhesives.
A high heat resistant overprint which imparts a matte finish to preprint linerboard while eliminating picking and smearing of the inks through the hot plate section of the corrugator.
A low odor, APEO free overprint varnish for applications in which printed/varnished liners must withstand the heat of corrugation. This product provides improved runnability at higher speeds, and improved gloss and heat resistance.
A coating which provides water and grease resistance and excellent MVTR properties on kraft liner and other substrates. When properly applied over a base coat, this repulpable coating is recommended as a replacement for some curtain coating applications, poly-laminated board and plastic bags.
