This partnership takes advantage of Michelman’s leading position as a sizing and surface treatment expert and leverages that expertise with Mafic’s portfolio of advanced basalt fiber technologies. Privately held Mafic SA was formed in 2012 for the production of advanced materials for the composite industry. It recently announced its first manufacturing facility in the United States, located in Shelby, North Carolina, will produce 1,000,000 lbs. of basalt fiber per month starting in Q1 2018.
