CINCINNATI, OH (December 31, 2008) – Michelman will be featuring a selection of its many surface modifiers for water-based interior furniture, cabinetry and floor coatings, as well as for exterior wood coatings, at the 2009 European Coatings Show being held in Nürnberg, Germany from March 31st through April 2nd, 2009. Also featured will be the company’s versatile Michem® Prime copolymer dispersion that combines high adhesion properties with low melt points and is used in dozens of industries including can and coil, textiles and nonwovens, inks, and packaging. Michelman will be exhibiting at ECS Hall 7, booth 7-633.Michelman’s surface modifiers enhance many performance attributes of water-based coating formulations for interior wood, including mar and scratch resistance, release, slip resistance, water and black heel mark resistance, and can help eliminate solvent-based formulations. In exterior wood applications, Michem Wood Coating, and other Michem brand surface modifiers provide water beading and aid in preventing a number of common problems including UV degradation, color fading, dirt pickup, water absorption, cracking, mold and mildew growth, swelling and splintering. They’re also very stable in low-VOC coatings.Michem Prime is a family of functionalized copolymer dispersions that deliver flexibility, water and chemical resistance, and barrier properties in a water-based form. It can be compounded with anti-corrosion pigments, crosslinkers and other binders to formulate temporary OEM metal coatings used in architectural metal, metal furniture and automotive applications, where reduced finger-printing & anti-corrosion properties are desired.Michem Prime can be laminated at low temperatures, making it an excellent binder in technical fabric and textile applications. It also exhibits superior adhesion to metals, nylon glass, low density polyethylene and wood, making it an excellent binder system especially for polar substrates.Formulations using Michem Prime feature excellent clarity, adhesion, lower heat seal temperature, toughness and crosslinkability.About MichelmanMichelman is a global developer of water-based barrier and functional coatings for flexible film packaging, paperboard, and corrugated cartons; and water-based surface modifiers, additives and polymers for numerous industries including wood care, industrial coatings, inks, fibers, composites, and construction products. Michelman serves its multinational and regional customers with production facilities in the U.S., Europe and Singapore, and a worldwide network of highly trained field technical support personnel.
