This position is responsible for managing the accounting department and ensuring accounting records are kept in accordance with US GAAP. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring the company is meeting its tax compliance obligations by timely and accurately filing GST / VAT / sales, franchise, excise, real estate, property, and other indirect tax returns.  This position is also responsible for managing the accounting staff including, but not limited to, helping to determine the staffing need of the department, work assignments, reviewing assigned work for completeness and accuracy, giving performance reviews, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

• Controlling

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of company financial information

  • Responsible for maintaining statutory and US GAAP books and records

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure complete and accurate recording of transactions in the company's financial and management systems

  • Maintains documentation of accounting processes and internal controls

  • Responsible for statutory financial policies and local operating procedures

  • Follows corporate accounting policies and reporting schedule

  • Ensures month-end duties are identified and delegated to appropriate individuals on the Accounting team who have the knowledge and skills required to complete the tasks successfully within the time frame provided

  • Ensures balance sheet accounts have been properly analyzed and reconciled to supporting documents / calculations.

  • Reviews balance sheet accounts and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Support Cost Accounting and Supply Chain to ensure physical inventories of owned and rented inventory locations are counted at least once per year.

• Financial Reporting

  • Partners with the Regional Controller and Regional FP&A leader to develop robust commentary around business performance, key performance indicators, opportunities, risks and challenges

  • Ensures the annual statutory audit is performed efficiently and effectively

  • Primary liaison with external auditors on the annual audit of the statutory accounts

  • Responsible for preparation of audit prepared by client schedules requested by the auditors to conduct an efficient and effective audit

• Taxation

  • Understands statutory tax compliance requirements in China and Singapore

  • Partners with external tax professionals to ensure timely and accurate tax filings

  • Ensures compliance with the company's transfer pricing policies

  • Reviews statutory tax filings related to GST, VAT, property, payroll and other indirect taxes for accuracy

  • Analyzes Free Trade Agreement (FTA) application, coordinates closely with procurement, cost accounting, and regulatory teams, and may liaise with Singapore Customs relating to FTA manufacturing cost statement application

• Treasury

  • Ensures effective internal controls around cash movements including, but not limited to, processing customer payments (cash receipts), making vendor payments, intercompany payments, payroll processing, expense reimbursements, and/or any other form of cash movement required to operate the business

  • Responsible for communicating relevant changes within the organization affecting user access and administration within banking platforms

• Management

  • Responsible for the development of the department operating and capital budgets

  • Supports annual renewal of insurance contracts and claim handling

  • Conduct performance reviews of staff and oversee their training and development to ensure they have development plans that contribute to their personal growth

  • Frequently meets with staff to discuss work and development plans, provide feedback and coaching

  • Effectively select, onboard, and train new associates, as needed

  • Reinforce company values within the team, build team morale and cohesion

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Rules, and statutory accounting rules

• Experience working in, and/or managing, general ledger, accounts payable, account receivable, financial reporting and tax compliance

• Proven ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion

• Strong communication and listening skills

• Detail oriented and organized

• Ability to work with and manage a diverse team

• Strong systems orientation including with major ERP and Microsoft suite of products
