Michelman has an excellent opportunity for you to join our organization as an Advanced Technician in the Printing & Packaging (P&P) Business Group. With guidance from Technology and the Business Development and Applications Team, you will evaluate a diverse set of novel technologies (materials and application) options that fit with supporting our Printing & Packaging (P&P) Business strategy around the Circular Economy.

Your curiosity and attention to detail will help us to identify which of those have the potential to enable unique benefits for our customers. Further, your data analysis skills will be refined with thorough documentation and effective communication of the experimental results you create. Finally, your flexibility and desire to learn will allow you to expand your capabilities to
include the wide range of lab processes you will need to evaluate, analyze, and develop those new technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

• Build detailed and often complex product development experiments at the lab scale for
• Printing & Packaging applications
• Provide timely responses and high-quality output to Technical Service Requests from the
• Printing & Packaging commercial team
• Prepare prototype formulations and samples (as directed) and test them against the success criteria that have been established for their intended application
• Supporting product development, application development, and customers by collaborating with Technical Sales, Business Development/Applications, and Technology Teams
• Create process-related data (including pilot scale) that will aid in the scale-up of product prototypes and lead to commercialization.
• Document thoroughly and accurately all experiments, analyses, and testing results
• Ensure timely delivery of project-related information/results to company partners
• Partner with Safety/Regulatory to ensure new materials are approved for internal use
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Understand and follow established procedures
• Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to work independently with little oversite
• Excellent analytical and observation skills
• Understanding of the different coating techniques available
• Ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Familiarity with laboratory, pilot, or production equipment and environment
• Ability to proactively communicate the status while working to accomplish the assigned tasks
• An understanding of chemistry concepts such as stoichiometry, acid/bases/buffering, and organic chemistry fundamentals to make logical adjustments to the formulas supplied

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a science-related field or an Associate's degree with 3 years of work experience in a lab setting.

• Experience formulating complex mixtures of materials (preferably waterborne) to achieve specific performance benefits for coatings and ink formulations, is a plus.

Other

• The role may require long periods of standing and/or an extended work schedule, from time to

  time

• The role may require heavy lifting from time to time (as much as 55 lbs. to waist level)

• The role may require occasional travel by car or plane to support trials

• The role will demand the appropriate use of PPE - including safety shoes
