CINCINNATI, OH (May 12, 2014) – Michelman will do two presentations at the TAPPI PLACE 2014 Conference being held May 13-15, 2014 in Ponte Vedra, Florida, USA.
The first presentation is entitled “Advances in Aqueous Heat Seal Coatings for Flexible Packaging”, and will be presented by Ms. Ginger Cushing, Global Business Development/Industry Manager, Functional Coatings at Michelman. In her presentation, Ms. Cushing will compare and contrast aqueous dispersions and extruded heat seal resins for use in flexible packaging applications. She will delve into bond strength and seal initiation temperatures of each alternative, and discuss opportunities that arise as a result of using aqueous heat seal coatings. Ms. Cushing’s presentation will take place Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm EST.
Dr. Michelle Ibanez, Senior Research Chemist, Printing & Packaging at Michelman, will also do a presentation entitled “Water Based Primer for Polypropylene Extrusion Coating” on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EST. Dr. Ibanez will present the case for a water based coating that will allow adhesion of polypropylene extrudate to a wide variety of substrates while maintaining good bond strength of the structures in both dry and wet conditions.
Michelman will also be exhibiting at the Conference and will feature its Michem® Flex Primer and Michem Flex Heat Seal coatings. Both water based solutions are designed for converters of flexible packaging. They can be applied from a single in-house coating station. Michem Flex Primer provides excellent adhesion to extrusion coated resins, while Michem Flex Heat Seal provides excellent bond with thin coat weight, thus reducing package thickness.
